One strategy that has been gaining popularity lately is partnering with Instagram influencers (which is nothing new) and organizing a joint prize draw.

These influencer giveaways are pretty simple. You partner with an account with followers, and they create content that asks their followers to follow your account, and one of the new followers will be chosen to win a prize.

It's not exactly an organic tactic, but it's proven to be quite valuable and has yielded interesting results. Just make sure the contest is fair and you're actually giving away the prize to someone.

Quick tip: When you're looking for influencer accounts to contact, you can message them directly, that seems like the best way. But (speaking from experience) many of them won't even see your message, since they get tons of them a day.

When writing a DM, make sure the first couple of words clearly state why you are writing to them. Because this is all the recipient will see before they click on the message. This will help the message stand out.
Get email addresses (often listed in a bio or website), add them to a list, and run automated outreach to save time.

You know the saying - If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together? Guess what works for Instagram too.

Since we started the topic of influencers in the previous section, one of the easiest ways to get additional followers is the “I promote you, you promote me” strategy. Your account should already be of a certain size. It should be at least comparable to the second party you want to collaborate with.

If you have a smaller account, maybe you have a different value proposition. Maybe you have a stronger Twitter presence or something else to negotiate.

In an attempt to keep users engaged with the platform, Instagram regularly introduces new features. Learning how to use these features can help you get ahead of the pack and gain more Instagram followers organically. Here’s a quick list of Instagram features you’ll need to use to get more engagement and followers:

Username and keywords
Users can find you on Instagram by your username if they are searching for accounts, or by your hashtag if they are searching for hashtags. To rank high, you will need to pull out your bag of search tricks. This means you will need to add a keyword to your username. Let’s look at an example. Tags
Tag relevant Instagram users. Tagging increases the likelihood that the person you tag will engage with your post and share it on their profile, increasing reach and visibility. You can add all sorts of interactive features to Instagram Stories. You can do polls, use chat stickers, and use all sorts of crazy and fun stickers. So don’t be afraid to experiment and see what works best for your brand.

Explore the Explore tab
Instagram’s Explore tab is accessible at the bottom of the app as a magnifying glass icon. It shows users photos and videos they might like from accounts they don’t follow yet. Instagram’s algorithm selects what’s in the grid based on accounts or posts the user has interacted with in the past. Getting into the grid can be a bit tricky, but it’s worth it to learn how to make the most of this feature for your account.
