Checking your phone by IMEI: when the code will help

Post by nurnobi40 »

Surely, every smartphone owner has heard about the IMEI code, but not everyone knows how to use it and how to find out their code. We tell you what IMEI is and what data can be found out with its help.

What is IMEI code
During the manufacturing process, each phone is assigned a unique digital code that distinguishes the device from others. It is interesting that IMEI exists not only for phones, but also for other devices with access to mobile networks, be it a car alarm or a video camera with a SIM card slot. The code is "sewn" into the communication module software by the manufacturer, and it cannot be changed during operation. There are craftsmen who know how to reflash the identifier on some outdated models, but in many countries this operation is prohibited by law.

What does IMEI consist of?
The unique phone identifier is 15 digits:

The first 2 indicate the organization that assigned the IMEI. For Apple products, this will always be 35.
The next 6 directly indicate the device model. For example, for iPhone 13 they will always be 876346.
The next 6 are the device serial number, which identifies the device.
The last digit is a control digit, through which the correctness of all the others is checked, similar hong kong mobile database to how this is done with product barcodes or bank card numbers.
So, each digit of this code has a meaning and gives a lot of information about the device.

How to find out the IMEI of a phone
First of all, the IMEI is necessarily indicated on the box in which the device was sold. Usually on a sticker with a barcode.

If you got the phone from someone else, you can look for the number under the battery or on the back of the device. But modern phones are equipped with a non-removable battery, and there may be no SIM card tray if an eSIM is used. This is not a problem: the IMEI number is usually also indicated in the phone settings section. On an iPhone, you should look for it along the path: Settings - General - About this device. Android owners should check the About phone section in the settings.

How to find out the IMEI code of your phone
And finally, there is a good old way to find out IMEI - the command* # 0 6 #p, which works on all phone models, even without an internet connection. After dialing this combination, a number will appear on the screen, it must be saved as a screenshot or written down. Use any of these methods to find out your unique code. But what can it be useful for?
How to check the authenticity of a phone via IMEI
It is believed that the IMEI code is needed to check the authenticity of the phone - whether you got it straight from the conveyor or it is a restored device that has seen a lot in its time. Often the code of non-original phones does not match the encoding adopted for this model - this fact is easy to check. However, the check does not guarantee 100% reliability, since there is no common IMEI database of all manufacturers. There are many sites on the Internet offering to "check a phone by IMEI", most of them are unsafe to visit.

A simple way to check a phone by IMEI is to compare the code on the phone box, on the SIM card tray and the one that comes out in the phone settings or on request* # 0 6 #pIf these codes do not match, or the software does not show the identifier at all, the phone is fake.
Many brands have created their own websites for checking IMEI. Let's see how to check the authenticity of different phone models.
