YouTube Handles – Mentions of channels

Post by Reddi3 »

YouTube mentions are now available
Until now, YouTube has never really had a comprehensive way to @mention or tag channels. This is now changing.

What are YouTube handles?
YouTube handles are unique usernames that can be used to interact across the entire YouTube platform.

As is common practice in most other networks, YouTube is also rolling out the mention of channels using the @ symbol. The new name serves as a unique username that can be used in “everywhere” on YouTube.

This includes not only your own videos, but also comments and the shorts section.

More engagement through tagging in comments?
Handles could already be used in places like descriptions, but in order to mention users in the comments, you first had to reply to them.

With the new handles, users or channels can now also be mentioned in any comment (... just like on TikTok).

This now makes it possible to tag friends to make greece phone number data them aware of content and could lead to videos receiving more engagement.

Is there a subscription limit for the username?
The username after the @ was already possible before, but there was a limit of at least 100 subscriptions. This limit is abolished with the new function and every channel receives such a username (automatically).

How do I get my handle?
YouTube is currently rolling out the feature. You will receive a notification as soon as you are allowed to use your handle. Your current username will automatically be entered as the handle, but you can also easily change it.

If you don't decide by November 14th, YouTube will automatically assign the handles based on your channel name (which you can change!).
