How, when and why to use the hybrid cloud in the company

Post by shuklarani621 »

Hybrid cloud is an architecture that incorporates some degree of management, orchestration and portability of workloads across two or more environments.
Cloud environments are the trend of this era, which even with the outbreak of COVID-19 saw an unprecedented acceleration in the adoption of digital. In response to this, IT departments are looking to reduce the size of their companies' data centers as much as possible, gaining flexibility, adaptability and scalability, while optimizing the availability of the flood of data they receive.

Most organizations opt for a hybrid cloud architecture,

That is, it incorporates a certain degree of management, organization and portability of workloads in two or more environments.

It is therefore a complex architecture, with different systems and some ig database to face such as connectivity, scalability, visibility and control.

But how, when and why to use a hybrid cloud solution in your company?

The global hybrid cloud market was valued at USD 61.26 billion in 2019 and is expected to reach USD 283.93 billion by 2027, growing at an annual rate of 22.8% from 2020 to 2027.

Why use hybrid cloud today?
There are three main use cases where such a setup benefits a business:

1. Cost optimization

Hybrid cloud allows customers to deploy applications on the appropriate cloud based on the characteristics of the application. Let's look at some application characteristics and the most suitable cloud for that type of application.

APPLICATION FEATURES

EXAMPLE

MOST SUITABLE CLOUD

Ephemeral

A single large computation

Public

Very elastic

Seasonal online business

Public

Small scale with geographical diversity

Web Application for a Startup

Public

Consistent, long-lasting

Testing and development workload

Private

Need low latency and high throughput

Enterprise applications, VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure)

Private

Need for local workload

Tightly coupled multi-tier application

Private

Need for more control over users, budget

Self-service cloud for higher education

Private

Need for integration with local devices or data

In-house data R&D

Private

Need for data security and compliance

Finance, ERP, HR applications

Private

Some applications fit into more than one category. For example, if you have an elastic application that needs a local workload, you may have to sacrifice locality and run it in a public cloud.

2. Burst workloads

Many businesses are cyclical in nature and their application scale and infrastructure requirements can vary dramatically from month to month. You can run your base workload on on-premises infrastructure and scale out to a public cloud to meet spikes in demand.

3. Consumption of cloud services

Many applications use different services. For example, an application that provides data exchange between branches can use cloud object storage as a reliable store and for sharing data. Here the application can be deployed on-premises with some amount of caching, but the cloud can be used as the primary data store.
