Mexico seeks to have Ford move part of the production it will stop in Brazil

Post by udoy120 »

In early 2017, Ford announced the cancellation of its plan to build its production plant in San Luis Potosí, under pressure from incoming President Donald Trump, who preferred that the automotive company invest in the United States.

Four years later, the global outlook looks different, with Joe Biden's arrival at the White House and the announcement by the American automaker on January 11 that it will close its three plants in Brazil.

With the above, Tatiana Clouthier, head of the Ministry of Economy (SE), announced that Mexico remains interested in being able to resume the investment project and that the assembly lines can be moved to the jamaica consumer email list country. She assured that representatives of the SE will seek an approach with Ford, to see if there is a possibility that this investment becomes a reality and will be reviewing their needs.

The North American company announced the closure of its plants in the South American country, as part of a restructuring of the group's production in South America, where it has been experiencing deficits for several years. Ford will supply the regional market from its production in Argentina, Uruguay and other regions.

“I think it is worth clarifying. It is not that Ford said: I am coming. We are already looking for Ford to offer him: let's see what you require, how you require it, how to flirt with him so that he comes to Mexico,” Clouthier said in the video press conference.

Four years ago, the automaker scrapped plans for a new $1.6 billion plant in San Luis Potosí, which would cover 280 hectares and create 2,800 direct jobs, but instead opted to invest $700 million in expanding its plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.

Currently, Ford of Mexico is one of the main exporters of engines and transmissions, its plants in Cuautitlán and Hermosillo produce two of the most representative models, such as the Mustang Mach-E and the Bronco Sport SUV.
