Finding pages with high rankings but low CTR

Post by joxet11299 »

Since links in the top positions of search results are clicked most often, they should have a high CTR. If the CTR of your pages is below the average 3-5% , it is worth figuring out why.

Use the position filter and enter the value "less than 3". This will give you a list of queries for which the site is in the top 3 results. After that, sort the results in ascending order of CTR.

Sorting in ascending/descending order, as usual, is done by clicking on the desired column

Check the search results for these queries - this way you will find out your competitors and possible reasons why your link is clicked less often. Perhaps, a quick answer block is shown for this phrase, and then it does not always make sense to fight for the championship. But it often happens that the problem is in the unattractive, uninformative or not quite relevant title and description. If this is really the case, they need to be rewritten.

CTR is an important metric to monitor (in conjunction with average position) to identify weak titles or descriptions in a snippet for subsequent revision and optimization.

Google takes CTR into account when ranking sites, and if your link in the search gets fewer clicks than others, this serves as a signal to the search engine that the page is less relevant and should not be included in the search. And vice versa - the more clicks on the title, the higher the site will rise.

It is also worth paying attention to search queries with a high CTR, for which pages are ranked outside the top 10. A large number of clicks indicates that the page is relevant and attracts the interest of the audience.

All that remains is to work on it to move it to more prominent positions in search results.

Finding queries with potential to increase traffic
According to many studies , users most often click on the first or uganda whatsapp number database second link in search results. With GSC, you can find keywords outside the top that you can or would like to get more traffic for, and "pull" the positions for these keywords to at least the second place in the search results.

To find queries that are on the first page but below the second position, use the position filter.

GSC does not provide a choice of range of values for filtering, so let's select, for example, all queries that are in the third position and below.

We enter the value 2.9 so that queries in third position are included in the selection.

Make sure the results are sorted by position in ascending order.

The arrow to the left of the word "Position" should point up.

It's worth paying attention to the queries that get the most impressions, i.e. have the greatest potential in terms of traffic. To see which page Google considers relevant to a specific keyword, click on the query and go to the "Pages" tab. This way, you can find out which pages need improvement.

The same goes for queries for which the site URL is displayed at the bottom of the first page of search results or on the second page. If there are a lot of impressions for them, it is worth working on optimizing such pages (technical SEO, strengthening internal and external links, working on the snippet) to raise them in search. Since you are not starting from scratch, this will require less time and effort.
