One of the first things people usually talk about when talking about a career in tech is salary. And it's easy to see why.

In a 2015 list of the highest-paying jobs in America, Business Insider found that computer and information systems managers ranked as the 21st highest-paying job, ahead of lawyers, pharmacists, and physicists. Not to mention, tech salaries are expected to continue to rise — and fast — with demand as high as ever.

But despite these high numbers, it can be easy to forget what drew you to IT in the first place.

For Steve Jobs, Apple was never about how much money was key features of paytm waiting for him at the end of the rainbow. When Apple became a company, there was no glory or fame in that garage. Rather, he believed in the product he was selling, baffling even his biographer who tried to pinpoint what exactly inspired Jobs.

As an IT leader, it’s important not to lose sight of why you do your job in the first place. Climbing the corporate ladder may give you more administrative responsibilities, but don’t lose sight of why you do what you do in the first place.

When people think of Steve Jobs, they often picture a solitary figure. Even in the iconic black-and-white image on the cover of Walter Isaacson's authorized biography, we see Jobs alone, promoting the idea of ​​a lone entrepreneur revolutionizing the world on his own terms.

But IT doesn't work that way. Or at least it doesn't have to .

Jobs understood that it takes a combination of teamwork, exceptional leadership , and unique vision to bring your best to life as a technology leader, from assembling a diverse group of players to understanding the fundamentals of emotional intelligence .

Because Apple wouldn't be the same without Steve Wozniak (or Ronald Wayne ), who helped set the company on its path to making great computers, or Steve Jobs, who left in the mid-80s and returned with a new sense of purpose that led to the computers and gadgets we know today.

Because being an IT leader means understanding that a great leader is not just you. It is a great team and a great vision of the future.
