Of organic SERP results

Post by ahbappy250 »

MUM is about the ability to predict the various needs that arise with the query and provide specific assets that meet those needs (whether it be links to pages, images, etc.).

The SERP, as it is and always has been, simply cannot support such a thing and makes no attempt to do so.

The closest thing to this is when Google serves free korean number for whatsapp multiple organic results (or even SERP features) to satisfy multiple intents. But this is very limited, as it is a big "hodgepodge" of URLs and features that do different things, but are mixed together without a clear demarcation.

In fact, we’ve started to see the early stages of MUM, as Google introduced both the Refine this search and Expand this search features:
However, these elements, while an interesting start, do not fundamentally move the needle to allow for meaningful exploration, as they are, in reality, an afterthought or an addition .

SERP remains the same construct that does not significantly support schema building and exploration, other than the fact that there are some elements indiscriminately interspersed.

Furthermore, these elements do not allow either to qualitatively open the topic in question or the SERP itself to thematic exploration.

Check out the Expand this search carousel I got for the keyword mountain hiking:
In practice, hiking options are divided into various categories, such as "east coast hiking" or "dangerous hiking in the United States."

Is this all that different from the list of excursions that Google offers in the Discover other places feature?
Furthermore, if you use the search broadening function, you arrive at another SERP that has the same shortcomings as all the other SERPs:
Instead, imagine a SERP that offers easy entry points to explore information , not just about local hikes, but also about gear, training, tips, local regulations, etc.

So while it’s good that MUM has started working on the SERP, this current iteration doesn’t come close to where I think Google wants to take things.

If Google were to adopt the thematic access points I mentioned, it would have to redesign the SERP and offer a multitude of media formats to best serve the user.

It should abandon the blue links as we currently know them.
