Keys to designing an attractive stand

Today we are going to talk about stand design, and for this we are going to meet with Róber, from our 3D team, who is going to help us find those keys to design an attractive stand.
3D design is in high demand in many areas, from interior design to video game development and VR. What are the peculiarities of 3D design applied to exhibition and trade fair stands?
As we are talking about creating line phone number data ephemeral corporate spaces that do not yet exist, as a designer I have one goal: to help the client visualise this space well. Therefore, I would say that the main peculiarity is the maximum realism with which you have to work.
When you say it like that, does it seem that practicality takes precedence over design?
It is more of a hybrid of the two. Let's say that if we are purists with the concepts, the design must fulfil both objectives. And it doesn't matter if it is interior design, product design or fashion design. First of all, it must fulfil a function, because otherwise it is useless. In our case, a stand serves as a way for our client to receive their clients and interact with them . Therefore, this space must be as comfortable and practical as possible. But it also has to convey a message aligned with the values and brand identity . It has to have an impact in some way. And that can only be achieved by being creative.
And speaking of this striking function that is sought... What is your source of inspiration? To what extent are references one of the keys to designing an attractive stand?
It is important to look for references, but I personally don't think it is essential. In the end, everyone follows their own strategy at work, and mine is to first create a concept, an idea or even a narrative through a conversation with yourself, and from there develop everything else . Of course, once you have this narrative in your head, you can look for references that serve as support, but not as a basis for your creation.
Of course, an umbrella concept guarantees the coherence of what you do. And back to the subject. We have said that references cannot be something to design an attractive stand. But what is essential is to immerse yourself in trends in general, because the attractiveness of a design depends a lot on what the public likes at the moment. If you do not follow trends, it is very difficult to get it right. In this sense, where do you look for inspiration?
Well, look, a stand is a piece of ephemeral architecture that has its envelope, the façade, and the content, that is, the distribution of spaces. So, I use many sources for different purposes. Museums, exhibitions, interventions on the street… You go to the Guggenheim, and the way the exhibition spaces are organized already suggests a lot to you. It inspires.

Sculpture is also important. Above all, large-scale sculpture. It helps you understand and learn how to design, for example, curved shapes (much more striking and impactful than flat surfaces) in a way that is feasible for production. Then, I personally love cinema and architecture. For me, they are very important sources of inspiration. A typical example of inspiration would be to draw inspiration from Mies van der Rohe's German pavilion at the Barcelona Expo.
