[New Delhi Jiji Press] Foreign Minister Kishida Fumio, who is currently visiting India, met with Foreign Minister Khurshid on the 12th. They agreed that it is important to reach an agreement on the nuclear agreement currently being discussed between the two governments in a way that will gain the support of both nations, and confirmed that both sides will accelerate the discussions while responding flexibly.
Negotiations on the Japan-India nuclear remove background image agreement were suspended after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident in 2011, but it was confirmed at a summit meeting in May this year that the agreement will be resumed. Negotiations are underway with the aim of concluding the agreement by the time Prime Minister Abe Shinzo visits India in January 2014.
Foreign Minister Kishida also announced that Japan would provide a yen loan of approximately 15 billion yen to support the reconstruction efforts in the northern state of Uttarakhand, where many people were killed and went missing in the floods in June. He also requested cooperation for the official visit of the Emperor and Empress of Japan from the end of November, to which Foreign Minister Khurshid responded, "This is a very important visit for India, and we are making every effort to prepare for it."
