The success of promotion in organic search is most often assessed by traffic growth and keyword positions. It is not entirely correct to link lead generation and conversion to SEO, because the main goal of search engine presentation is to attract a visitor. Transferring him to the next stage of the funnel is a separate step.

In this article, we will evaluate growth by traffic. However, it is worth considering that the higher the site traffic, the lower the rate of conversion. In any niche, the audience reach is limited, and the stakes are higher: increasing traffic by 100% for a project with 1,000 visits per month and a million are different things.

How Fast Does SEO Give Results?
"How quickly will SEO bring results?" is one of the frequently asked questions to a promotion specialist. To answer it objectively, Morningscore surveyed 75 experts with different experience. 47.3% of them have been working in SEO for more than 5 years, 45.9% - from one year to 5 years.

82% of respondents believe that it takes 6 months to get the first results from search engine optimization. The channel’s full potential is only revealed after 1–2 years.

If the site is new, it will take 6-12 months, at least 4, to establish itself in the search results. Only then will it be able to consistently receive traffic from the search results.

94.6% of the surveyed experts note that sites with good links and content can receive SEO promotion results within 6 months after the start of work. At the same time, on average, optimization requires from 4 to 15 working hours per week.

The most time-consuming tasks in SEO are:

link building - 52.1%;
content writing - 21.1%;
external optimization - 7%;
technical optimization - 5.6%.
Experts note that SEO takes so much time because of the need to attract quality external links (66.2%), build domain authority (56.8%), add relevant keywords to pages (40.5%), and create quality content (36.5%).

How SEO projects grow
Growth rates in SEO depend on many factors. Marketer Kevin Inding studied three of his projects from different industries and at different stages of development: a SaaS startup, a content portal in the growth phase, and a marketplace at the scaling stage. All of them received at least 50% of their traffic from organic traffic. Here are his conclusions:

The startup's traffic has grown by 100% in a year and continues to grow at the same rate. The project is young, so it has not yet managed to take top positions for important keywords.
The content portal grew by an impressive 446% in its first year, but by year five it was down just 27%. For a publisher in a narrow niche (sleep and everything related to it), this is a good pace, since the choice of popular topics is limited.
