Main and additional categories - do thorough research

The main and additional categories are very important so that Google can easily determine the profile of your company's activity and match it to the competition. The category is also a ranking factor and helps to position the company's business card in maps, so when choosing it, we should conduct detailed research of the competition in Google Maps search results. How should you look for the right category for your business card?

You can use a dedicated tool that has a lot of features to optimize business cards and do it in a few seconds ( Localo ) or do it manually:

Step 1 - From among the appropriate keywords for our business model, we select the phrase that interests us, e.g. website positioning + city.

Step 2 - We check the frequency of the categories. In our case it is:

Interactive agency - 9 times.

Marketing agency- 6 times.

Advertising agency - 1 time.

As the main category we choose the one that appeared most often in the top 20, in our case - interactive agency. We add the rest as additional categories. In some cases we have to search for subcategories separately using other phrases, e.g. product store and product assembly.

Important

If we do not offer, for example, assembly, we do not add such a subcategory so as not to mislead Google and our potential customers.

After such a conducted category research, we can be sure that they are suitable for our business model and, consequently, will have an impact on the position of the business card in the Google Maps search results.

3. Company location and service areas - how to choose the optimal solution?
Location is very important, but we should hide it if we do not serve customers or provide services directly at its address (removing, adding or changing the address may require re-verification of the business card). Below are a few optimal solutions, one of which will definitely work for your company.

For example, if you are a dentist , you should have the location set to your practice, and in the service areas you should not add service areas.

In the case of a company servicing outside its headquarters, the address should be removed so that it is not displayed, and in the areas of operation, the districts/cities/communes/counties/entire province/several provinces served should be added.

For a stationary store, e.g. with a product assembly service in a given area, you should leave the company address and add the area in which the assembly services are provided.

For the manufacturer (if they service customers at the company's headquarters), you should leave an address and set the service area to Poland or the provinces in which the company operates. For companies operating nationwide, the best solution is to have business cards for each location where the company has branches.

You need to know: Before adding or removing a business employment database location, thoroughly analyze the competition. If you plan to hide your location, but every competitor in the Top 10 has it, even properly performed Google listing optimization may not be enough to get high positions.

4. Attributes in Google Maps - what are they and how to get them?
Attributes in Google Maps can give customers several important pieces of information about your business. Attributes can include whether the restaurant offers Wi-Fi, has an on-site bar, is family-friendly, or has parking. Adding the right attributes to your business profile will help make a better impression on new users who browse your listing. The types of attributes depend on the type of business.

Unfortunately, from the Google My Business panel we usually only have the option to add information that the company is managed by women ;).

All other options are added after Google previously answered questions for map users.

It is therefore worth encouraging our clients to take a minute to find our company's business card, click "answer a few questions" and answer the questions asked by Google, which will increase the attractiveness of the business card and the company itself in the eyes of future clients.

5. Unique company description - 250 characters strong
When thinking about positioning your Google listing so that it can reach potential customers, make sure to create unique content to describe your business. The description can contain up to 750 characters. It is important that the first 250 characters contain the most important information.

In such a situation, the best solution is to fill them with valuable keywords for us and provide the name of the city where the company provides its services. The first 250 characters are always visible after displaying the company profile, the remaining content is displayed after clicking the "more" button.

Tip

Your company description cannot contain links or emoticons as this is against Google's guidelines.

6. Services - get an additional tab in your Google business card
The services were completely changed by Google at the end of October 2019. From that moment on, they are closely related to the categories in the listing and are dependent on each other. Remember that adding services to the Google listing can be one of the factors that will tempt a customer to go to the website and use your company's offer. The new Google services of the company look much better and you can include a title, a 300-character long description and the price of the service.

Added services can be seen more often on mobile devices in the Google Maps application. When implementing Google Maps positioning, you can't skip them!

7. Google Business Card Entries
Creating entries to the Google listing news is important because thanks to this we constantly refresh the content and provide new information for users who come across our offer or constantly follow it. This can be an interesting option to inform them about an upcoming promotion or a new product on the site.

A very nice solution is to publish entries as an entry - offer. This allows you to add an entry with a header, which can contain keywords. It will contain a title and a photo or video, as well as content up to 1500 characters + a link to go to the website address we provide.
