Apps for Good Brasil is a technological educational program in which young people create applications to solve society's problems. And it was recently considered a success story of digital inclusion by the European Commission , due to the transformation it has driven in the teaching and learning of digital skills.
In the report Inspirational practices for tomorrow's inclusive digital world , the European germany email list Commission explains in detail what contribution the Transnational Platform of the European Social Fund Thematic Network has made to learning and capacity building for policies developed in the European Union and in the national context.
The aim is to build both an inclusive digital economy and society in Europe .
The Apps for Good project appears in the document as a success story and an example that should be followed and from which other institutions can learn to develop innovative solutions to face the challenges of digitalization.
According to the European Commission , the education programme illustrates “the exponential development of new training and learning platforms and methods offered by actors outside conventional education. New forms of partnership between school actors, and between public and private actors, are rejuvenating curricula, experimenting with new links between subjects and already demonstrating a positive impact on employability”.
Noting that Apps for Good “changes the established pedagogical paradigm”, the European Commission adds that the educational program is helping to “create a new generation of ‘digital makers’ and ‘problem solvers’, and reduce the gap between market needs of work and the abilities of students”.
“It is a great honor and a great pride to see that the European Commission sees Apps for Good as an international example to be followed with regard to digital inclusion and the importance it has in promoting and developing the creative capacity of young people, using technology to solve social problems and causes”, says João Baracho, executive director of CDI Portugal .
How does this digital inclusion project work?
Launched by CDI Portugal , Apps for Good is a program that aims to seduce young people (between 10 and 18 years old) and teachers to use technology as a way to solve their problems, proposing a new, more intuitive, collaborative and practical educational model.
The objective of the program is to develop Apps for smartphones and tablets that can contribute to solving problems related to the sustainability of the world in which we live.
The program is operational throughout the academic year, where teachers (from all subject areas) and students have access to online content with a 5-step project methodology.
To support the development of the project, participants have access to a network of experts who connect online to the classroom, to provide full support in clarifying doubts. The implementation model may be curricular or extracurricular.
At the end of the program, schools will be able to choose to participate in the competition which is divided into two phases:
Regional Meetings – semi-finals in which all students are invited to go to the Marketplace and make their pitch
Final Event – where the best solutions are awarded.
