Marketing has many facets that go beyond what we use it for every day. When we do an Internet search, we are faced with exactly a question closely related to what I said above.
Many people seem to have difficulty finding the answer to the question: what is the france email list difference between Social Marketing and Commercial Marketing ? Although the two terms share a word, the purposes of both modalities are completely different.
In this article, we highlight the differences and similarities between these two types of Marketing. From this definition, we see how the concept is divided and deconstructed according to different objectives to create two totally distinct concepts.
Definition of Social Marketing
Social Marketing is the design, implementation and control of programs calculated to influence and promote the acceptance of social ideas. The term was coined and developed by Kotler and Zaltman in 1971, when it was realized that marketing principles could be used to encourage ideas and not just products or services.
Little by little, Social Marketing began to be accepted, especially in the 1990s, when the Australian campaign “Life Be In It” with lifestyle messages was created and proved to be a tremendous success in encouraging people to combat sedentary lifestyles and take up physical exercise.
In short, the goal of Social Marketing is to achieve certain specific goals in the behavior of the audience in order to improve the society in which we live. For example, Social Marketing can encourage people to avoid smoking in public areas or convince individuals to drive within the speed limits imposed by law. But there is no limit to the scope of this type of marketing.
Definition of Commercial Marketing
In turn, the American Marketing Association describes Commercial Marketing as an “activity, set of institutions and processes for creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, partners and society at large.”
In short, Commercial Marketing is the process by which customer needs are identified and satisfied by an organization's products or services, with a view to making a profit (preferably a lot of it!). This is how companies hope to gain a competitive advantage over any other competitor in the same market.
Common Similarities Between Social Marketing and Commercial Marketing
However, despite their very different purposes, these two types of Marketing have some common characteristics in the way they apply certain methodologies. Here are some of the similarities we found:
– A consumer orientation is always considered first;
– Exchange theory is fundamental;
– Market analysis is used during both processes;
– Audiences are segmented;
– The best market segment is chosen;
– All 4 Ps of Marketing are taken into consideration;
– Results are monitored to determine strategic improvements in the future.
