World Cup streaming disrupted due to cyberattack

FuboTV has confirmed that a broadcast outage that prevented subscribers from watching the semi-final match of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar between France and Morocco was caused by a cyberattack .

At around 2pm CET, as users prepared to watch the World gambling data turkey Cup semi-final, FuboTV subscribers discovered they were unable to log in to the streaming service. Instead, they were greeted with a CB_ERR_OPEN error, stating "ff: downstream not available," when attempting to log in.

Subscribers were unable to contact support to report the issue, as it required the user to first log in to the FuboTV site, which was no longer possible. However, FuboTV soon announced that they were working on the issue and advised subscribers to stream the game on FOX.

"We apologize to customers who are experiencing issues with the France vs. Morocco game. We are resolving the issue. Please note that you can also watch this match live on FOX for free," the FuboTV Twitter account tweeted.

The outage led to a flood of tweets from FuboTV subscribers complaining about the outage and how they couldn't watch the game.

Outage caused by a cyber attack
Today, FuboTV confirmed that a cyberattack was the cause of the outage and that they are continuing to investigate and respond to the incident.

“On December 14, 2022, the day of the Qatar 2022™ semi-final match between France and Morocco, many FuboTV users experienced issues accessing their accounts,” said a statement posted on the FuboTV website.
"The incident was not related to any bandwidth restrictions by Fubo. Instead, we were the target of a criminal cyberattack."
The statement said that after discovering the attack, they worked to restore service to subscribers and were able to do so that same evening. FuboTV also said that it hired cybersecurity firm Mandiant to investigate and respond to the attack and reported the incident to law enforcement.

FuboTV has not yet provided details about the attack, but said that a lack of bandwidth did not cause the outage, indicating that this was not a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack.
