Tensions have been running high since April, when disputes along their mountainous border intensified. In early June, the first deadly clashes along the border in four decades occurred.

" We firmly oppose the Indian side's repeated use of the word 'national security' as a pretext to ban some mobile apps with Chinese origins ," Ji Rong, spokesman for the Chinese embassy in India, said in a statement on Wednesday.

In late June, India blocked local access to 59 apps, including ByteDance Ltd.'s wildly popular short-video platform TikTok, Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s WeChat and QQ Mail, and Alibaba's UC Browser.

In September, India banned another 118 apps, including Alibaba's Taobao, Ant Group's widely used payment service Alipay, Tencent's popular game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and search engine Baidu Inc.

Tuesday's ban also applies to some streaming apps such as croatia telegram number database Snack Video, MangoTV and Tencent's overseas service WeTV. India has also blocked a number of dating and networking apps such as Chinese Social, Date in Asia, gay dating app Guys Only Dating and lesbian social app Rela.

Neighboring Pakistan, however, took a different approach. In October, Pakistan lifted its ban on TikTok just 10 days after it was implemented, sparking a flood of new downloads that made the app the third most popular app in the country.
