The EU makes history and agrees the world's first law to curb AI excesses

After long and arduous negotiations within the European Union (EU), an agreement has been reached on what is considered to be the world's first artificial intelligence (AI) law. This legislation will translate into stricter rules for the use of the most popular technology of the moment and will put obstacles in the way of potentially more dangerous AI applications.

Negotiators from the European Parliament and EU jiangxi mobile phone numbers database member states agreed on a groundbreaking law to regulate AI on Friday evening in Brussels . The European Parliament emphasises that this is the world's first AI law. And Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for Internal Markets and Services, insists on calling the agreement "historic".

The European Commission (EC) first proposed the law in April 2021. According to the regulation agreed by the European Parliament and the member states, AI systems will be categorized based on the risks they pose. And the most risk-laden applications could eventually be banned within the EU.

Under the law, strict transparency rules will also be imposed on companies such as OpenAI , Microsoft and Google that are active in the field of AI . These companies will be required, for example, to provide specific information about the data used to train their AI systems and about their compliance with copyright rules.
