Merge duplicate records

James Pollard of The Advisor Coach agrees on data cleanup:

“For example, a person might have interacted with your business using two different email addresses. In these cases, you might send the same follow-up message twice to the same person. This gives the potential customer the impression that you are unprofessional and that you don’t know what you are doing.”

How do marketers remove duplicate contacts and other data from their CRMs? We've had several suggestions.

Nathan Heider of Campaign Creators uses a manual process for HubSpot deduplication :

Select which of the two contacts you want to keep the information from

Click on 'Actions', below the contact name

Select 'Merge'

Enter the name of the contact you want to merge

While some companies remove duplicate contacts occasionally, some thailand code phone number marketers have told us they do it regularly. Removing duplicate data becomes a consistent part of their work.

During the cleanup process, the team will decide whether to merge duplicate deals/contacts, delete one of them, or keep both. This can be confusing because some of the data may be correct in both, and making sure you keep the right information can be difficult if you didn’t enter it yourself.
