Ehmer: That depends to a large extent on your own value system and your own compass, and also on the question of whether you are prepared to stand up for what you think, what your own value system is, and then to appear in public with it. Of course, all of this has its limits and varies depending on your role. If you are the CEO of a listed company, then you have different options and different limits than if you are the owner of a sole proprietorship that you own. There are all shades of grey in between.
I think there are basic values that everyone should be able to stand up for. You can see that with the DAX CEOs, who take a stand on certain issues. That's why I don't think it's dangerous; it's the right thing to do. On the other hand, of course, it's a case of "choose your battles": what am I fighting for? And what is so important that I should speak out about it?
It's a bit like what Jürgen Klopp once said in an interview: Just because I'm in the media as a football coach, I don't have to have an opinion on everything and say it. Of course, that also applies to people who have responsibility in companies. Just because you have responsibility for a company and for employees and their families, you don't have to have an opinion on everything and say it.
It's about the things that move you, that are important to you. And I think everyone should have the courage and strength to stand up for it. At least I do, for example for the issue of diversity, which has a very strong influence on the company. And I am thrilled to see how much feedback I get from the company when I stand up for it on social media, and how the company also picks up on this signal and you get the impression that employees have only been waiting for this signal. That it is not only tolerated by the company's top management, but also supported. And now they are also expressing themselves in this way. Standing up for it on cryptocurrency data social media, making their voices loud. That's good.
As a CEO you always have responsibility, not only for the company, but also to some extent for society. Wherever you can have an influence, I think you should do so.
Hoffmann: Does that mean, conversely, that you are actively working to ensure that employees also get involved in social networks and make themselves visible?
although a shitstorm can also quickly arise. So it's better to think twice before you press the send button.
But in my experience, that is not the problem for most people who approach this medium. Rather, those who send something that they would have been better off not sending are the ones for whom it seems to have become second nature and a certain carelessness sets in.
On the other hand, it is of course also the case that anyone who posts things that make you say afterwards "how can you post something like that?" has either had a really bad day or has only posted what they believe. And then that is what they have to stand up for and accept the consequences. So in that respect, the recommendation is that if you are unsure, you should seek support, but not being present and not being active is not an option in my view.
Hoffmann: Thank you very much, Mr. Ehmer, that was a strong statement, those were very, very interesting insights. I wish you continued success, and we'll see and hear from you. Bye!
Ehmer: Thanks for the interview. Bye!
Hoffmann: Thank you for watching and listening up to this point. If you like this format, you can subscribe to it. You can find the link in the show notes. Otherwise, I'm always happy to receive feedback and ideas. Feel free to get in touch. Bye and see you soon. Yours, Kerstin Hoffmann.
So from this point of view, quality comes before quantity, but without quantity it is of course also laborious
