What are the International Standards on Auditing (ISAs)?

There is a cabal. I mean, there are probably a lot of cabals, depending on who you talk to. To be clear, I'm not talking about the Cabals. I'm talking about a secretive, powerful organization of elites changing the way the world works through shadowy operations.

You might not think that IFAC (the International Federation of Accountants), which has offices on 5th Avenue in New York City and is “open to professional accountancy bodies with an interest in the international accountancy profession,” is considered a cabal. You might be right.



However, the organization does have excellent qualities, and it is responsible for many of the rules and guidelines that make accounting successful. One of the divisions of the IFAC is the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), which develops International Auditing Standards.

What are International Standards on Auditing (ISA)
International Standards on Auditing (ISAs) are auditing vk database guidelines developed by the IAASB. As the name suggests, ISAs are international standards developed to harmonize auditing worldwide. While not all countries require compliance with ISAs, most at least use the standards as a guide for their own home-brewed systems.

Although the ISAs have been around for much longer, the latest, “clarified” version of the standards was released in 2009. This clarification made the standards more relevant and clearer on some of the underlying auditing motivations.

The clarified standards are intended to make it easier for audit users - the people who initiate the audit or look at the results - to understand what is being said and why it is being said. Providing the user with more transparency and clarity means, hopefully, fewer Enrons and more buffers.



IFAC governs this city

For an auditor , CPA, or student, understanding the role of the ISA is of the utmost importance. Auditors will live and die - professionally - by the standards, while CPAs often find themselves on the audit side, as their work will be measured by the same standards.

Students taking the CPA exam are required to have a good working knowledge of International Standards on Auditing and their implementation.
